Gambling Harm Prevention — Tools and Help for Australian Players

Gambling is entertainment. When it stops being that, help is available — and faster than most people expect. This page covers the specific warning signs, every tool Rollxo provides, and the Australian support services that are free and confidential.

Signs of Problem Gambling (Specific Behaviours, Not Vague)

Problem gambling rarely announces itself clearly. The behaviours below are specific indicators that the relationship with gambling has shifted from entertainment to harm. You do not need to tick all of them for help to be warranted — a single persistent behaviour from this list is enough reason to act.

  • Chasing losses: Depositing more after a losing session specifically to try to win back what you lost, rather than because you wanted to play more. This is the single most reliable behavioural marker of harmful gambling.
  • Exceeding your own limits: Setting a mental deposit or loss limit before a session and consistently overriding it once you have reached it. The override, not the limit itself, is the signal.
  • Hiding play from people close to you: Clearing browser history, using a separate device or payment method, or lying about how much time or money has been spent on gambling.
  • Borrowing to gamble: Using a credit card, personal loan, or money borrowed from friends or family to fund gambling sessions, especially when you do not have the cash available yourself.
  • Gambling to cope: Turning to gambling when stressed, anxious, depressed or after an argument — using it as emotional regulation rather than entertainment.
  • Neglecting obligations: Missing work, social commitments or family responsibilities because of time spent gambling, or because you are preoccupied with plans to gamble.
  • Restlessness or irritability when not gambling: Feeling genuinely unsettled during periods when you cannot access gambling, beyond the normal preference to play.
  • Escalating stakes to maintain the same feeling: Needing to bet larger amounts than previously to get the same level of excitement from play.
  • Failed attempts to cut back: Having tried to reduce or stop gambling and been unable to sustain it, even when you wanted to.
  • Gambling with money earmarked for essentials: Using rent, mortgage, grocery or utility money to fund sessions, even briefly, with the intention to replace it from winnings.

If three or more of the above apply to you currently, speaking to a counsellor is the practical next step. The Australian helpline numbers are in the section below and all contacts are free, confidential and available around the clock.

Rollxo’s Built-In Tools: How to Use Each One

Rollxo provides a set of responsible gambling tools accessible from the account settings menu. We tested each one to confirm it functions as described. Here is how to locate and activate each tool, and what it actually does when applied.

ToolWhere to find itHow it works
Deposit limitsAccount Settings → Responsible Gambling → Deposit LimitsSets a maximum you can deposit per day, week or month. Takes effect immediately for reductions. Increases require a 24-hour cooling-off period before they apply.
Loss limitsAccount Settings → Responsible Gambling → Loss LimitsCaps the net amount you can lose in a defined period. Once the limit is reached, real-money play is blocked until the period resets. Same cooling-off rule applies to increases.
Session remindersAccount Settings → Responsible Gambling → Session LimitsDisplays a pop-up notification at your chosen interval (30 or 60 minutes) showing your current session duration and net result. Does not prevent continued play — it provides information to support a decision.
Reality checkAccount menu → Reality Check (available during active session)On-demand summary of your current session: time elapsed, total wagered, total won, net position. Access it any time from the account dropdown during a session.
Self-exclusionAccount Settings → Responsible Gambling → Self-ExclusionCloses your account for a defined period (24 hours, 1 week, 1 month, 6 months, 1 year) or permanently. Takes effect immediately upon confirmation. During exclusion, you cannot log in, deposit or receive marketing. Permanent exclusion requires contacting support to confirm.
  • Deposit limit reductions take effect immediately — set them before your next session, not after.
  • Loss limits are calculated on net loss (deposits minus withdrawals in the period), not gross wagering.
  • Self-exclusion cannot be reversed during the selected period, even if requested through support.
  • All tools are accessible from the mobile app under the same account settings menu.

What to Do If Rollxo Isn’t Acting on Your Limit Request

Responsible gambling tools should function as described above. If a limit you have set is not being applied — for example, if you are still able to deposit above a limit you set, or if a self-exclusion did not take effect — take these steps immediately:

  1. Screenshot the current state of your account showing the limit set and the transaction or activity that breached it. Include timestamps.
  2. Contact Rollxo support via live chat immediately and state clearly: "I have a responsible gambling limit set and it is not being enforced. I need this resolved now." This escalates the issue above a standard support query.
  3. Follow up in writing by email with the screenshots. A written record creates a paper trail if the issue is not resolved.
  4. If you cannot stop yourself from playing while the limit is being fixed, request an immediate account suspension from support. This is a separate action that can be applied instantly while the underlying limit issue is investigated.
  5. If Rollxo does not resolve the issue within 24 hours, file a complaint with the Curacao eGaming authority citing specifically that a responsible gambling tool failed to function. This is grounds for a formal complaint under the licence terms.
  6. Contact Gambling Help Online (1800 858 858) in parallel. Counsellors can help you manage the immediate situation while the technical issue is being resolved.

Self-Exclusion Registries Available in Australia

Self-exclusion removes your ability to access gambling services. There are two distinct types available in Australia, covering different sets of operators:

  • BetStop — National Self-Exclusion Register: BetStop is Australia's national register for self-exclusion from wagering services licensed under Australian law. It covers licensed Australian online and retail sports betting operators (such as Sportsbet, TAB, Ladbrokes, Bet365 AU). Register at betstop.gov.au. BetStop does not cover offshore online casinos such as Rollxo, which are not licensed under Australian law.
  • Direct self-exclusion at Rollxo: For offshore casino self-exclusion, you must apply directly to Rollxo via the self-exclusion tool in account settings (see the tools section above). This is separate from BetStop and covers your Rollxo account only.
  • State and territory exclusion schemes: Each Australian state and territory operates an exclusion scheme for land-based venues (casinos, pubs, clubs). These are venue-specific or venue-group registers and do not extend to online casinos. If you want to exclude from physical venues in your state, contact your state's gambling authority for the relevant scheme.

If you are using both online and land-based gambling services and need comprehensive coverage, you will need to apply separately to BetStop (for licensed wagering operators), directly to any offshore casino you use, and to your state's land-based exclusion scheme. No single register currently covers all three categories in Australia.

If you are in immediate distress, call Gambling Help Online: 1800 858 858 now.

I line up advertised bonuses with bank-side velocity and card rules so Aussie players see friction before it hits — straight product notes, no “edge” fairy tales.
